We sweep and inspect chimneys, fit caps and spark arrestors, and service wood stoves and inserts across Durango, Cortez and Bayfield. That is the whole list. We are not a masonry contractor and we do not sell stoves or fireplaces, which means nothing we recommend is pointed at a second invoice.
The name is the town's own. The Durango & Silverton narrow gauge has been running out of here since 1882, and a narrow gauge is a small-diameter passage that has to be kept clear - which is close enough to the job to be worth borrowing.
You get a firm number before work starts and that is the number on the invoice. If we open something up and find a genuine surprise, we stop and show you with the camera, and you decide. Nothing gets added that you have not looked at first.
We batch the outlying towns onto scheduled days rather than driving 45 miles for one job. That is what lets us charge the same rate everywhere instead of adding travel. The trade-off is honest and worth stating: we are not the right call for a same-day emergency in Montezuma County.
We fit caps and spark arrestors and we document them. We do not promise you a premium discount, because we cannot see your carrier's wildfire model and anyone who claims to is inventing it. What we know is that Colorado law now requires carriers using those models to disclose your risk score and credit mitigation you have completed - and that work nobody wrote down cannot be credited at all. So the deliverable is the paperwork as much as the hardware.
If the flue is clean we say so. If the stove is worth keeping, we say that too - we do not sell appliances.
Get a Free QuoteIt is worth being direct, because you have probably met it. Chimney work is sold to people who cannot see the product. You cannot inspect your own flue, you have no way to verify what was removed, and the failure being sold against - a house fire - is frightening enough that fear does most of the selling. That combination attracts a certain kind of operator.
The tells are consistent. A firm price on the phone far below anyone else's. Before-and-after photographs that are not of your chimney. A repair that appears only once the technician is already on the roof. An urgent finding with no documentation attached to it. And, newer around here, a promise about what mitigation work will do to your insurance premium.
Our answer is documentation. Photographs and camera footage of your flue, handed over whether or not you buy anything, and a written finding you can take to somebody else for a second opinion. If we are wrong about something that makes it easy to catch - which is rather the point.
Send a photo and a question. We answer those free, before you book anything.
